چکیده

Machine learning models of music typically break up the task of composition into a chronological process, composing a piece of music in a single pass from beginning to end. On the contrary, human composers write music in a nonlinear fashion, scribbling motifs here and there, often revisiting choices previously made. In order to better approximate this process, we train a convolutional neural network to complete partial musical scores, and explore the use of blocked Gibbs sampling as an analogue to rewriting. Neither the model nor the generative procedure are tied to a particular causal direction of composition. Our model is an instance of orderless NADE [36], which allows more direct ancestral sampling. However, we find that Gibbs sampling greatly improves sample quality, which we demonstrate to be due to some conditional distributions being poorly modeled. Moreover, we show that even the cheap approximate blocked Gibbs procedure from [40] yields better samples than ancestral sampling, based on both log-likelihood and human evaluation.

Weighted Convolution Measure Algebras Characterized by Convolution Algebras

The weighted semigroup algebra Mb (S, w) is studied via its identification with Mb (S) together with a weighted algebra product *w so that (Mb (S, w), *) is isometrically isomorphic to (Mb (S), *w). This identification enables us to study the relation between regularity and amenability of Mb (S, w) and Mb (S), and improve some old results from discrete to general case.

Numerical resolution of large deflections in cantilever beams by Bernstein spectral method and a convolution quadrature.

The mathematical modeling of the large deflections for the cantilever beams leads to a nonlinear differential equation with the mixed boundary conditions. Different numerical methods have been implemented by various authors for such problems. In this paper, two novel numerical techniques are investigated for the numerical simulation of the problem. The first is based on a spectral method utiliz...

CounterPoint: Creating Jazzy Interactive Presentations

In this paper, we introduce Counterpoint, a zooming presentation tool. CounterPoint supports the construction of slide show style presentations with content arrangement in a 2.5D space. As with other Zoomable User Interfaces, CounterPoint provides animated navigations as transitions through this space. Our tool also supports both automated sequential paths and interactive navigation through the...

Analysis and Synthesis of Palestrina-Style Counterpoint Using Markov Chains

This paper presents a novel approach to computergenerated Palestrina-style counterpoint using probabilistic Markov Chains. It is shown how Markov Chains adequately capture the rules of species counterpoint and how they can be used to synthesize species counterpoint given a cantus firmus. It is also shown how such rules can be inferred from given counterpoint examples.

Free Vibration of Annular Plates by Discrete Singular Convolution and Differential Quadrature Methods

Plates and shells are significant structural components in many engineering and industrial applications. In this study, the free vibration analysis of annular plates is investigated. To this aim, two different numerical methods including the differential quadrature and the discrete singular convolution methods are performedfor numerical simulations. Moreover, the Frequency values are obtained v...
